Inconel Alloy 625®: Information, Composition & Properties for Hex Nuts
Inconel Alloy 625® is a high-performance nickel-based superalloy engineered for extreme environments that demand exceptional strength and superior corrosion resistance. Its unique properties are derived from a balanced microstructure that remains stable from cryogenic temperatures up to 2000°F (1093°C). This makes Alloy 625 hex nuts an essential component for critical assemblies in aerospace, marine, and chemical processing industries, where standard stainless steel fasteners would fail due to oxidation or mechanical stress.
Composition:
The alloy is primarily composed of nickel (minimum 58%), chromium (20-23%), and molybdenum (8-10%). A key defining characteristic is the addition of niobium (3.15-4.15%), which works in tandem with molybdenum to stiffen the alloy’s matrix through solid solution strengthening. This internal architecture provides high tensile and yield strength without the need for additional precipitation-hardening heat treatments.
Properties:
- Outstanding Corrosion Resistance: The high nickel and chromium content provides excellent resistance to a wide range of severely corrosive environments, while molybdenum prevents pitting and crevice corrosion.
- High Strength and Toughness: These hex nuts exhibit a typical ultimate tensile strength of 120-160 ksi, maintaining their integrity under high pressure and significant mechanical loads.
- Exceptional Thermal Stability: Alloy 625 resists oxidation and scaling at elevated temperatures and remains resistant to chloride-ion stress corrosion cracking, making it the premier choice for seawater and offshore applications.
- Excellent Fatigue Resistance: The material is designed to withstand cyclic thermal and mechanical loading, ensuring long-term reliability in safety-critical assemblies such as jet engines and nuclear reactors.
At West Special Fasteners, we take pride in every Inconel Alloy 625® hex Nut we produce, no matter the application.
