How our products are used in the Marina Bay area of Singapore
A4-80 Hexagon Bolts
West Special Fasteners Limited was approached by a fastener distributor regarding fasteners for an upcoming bridge project in Singapore.
The collaboration resulted in an order for A4-80 Hexagon Bolts which would secure the structure of the proposed bridge. West Special Fasteners Limited were selected due to being a trustworthy supplier with an excellent reputation in service, quality, and technical knowledge to undertake the supply and manufacture of fasteners for this very challenging bridge design.
Background:
Construction began in 2007 and the design was the brainchild of Australian architect Philip Cox, the founder of Philip and Cox Associates, one of Australia’s largest architectural practices. They also worked in conjunction with architects in Singapore to erect the bridge that was inspired by the DNA structure of human beings. The style and design of the bridge bear resemblance to the international left-handed DNA. Even more to the DNA-like structure are the pairs of coloured letters c and g, and a and t which light up red and green at night to add to the spectacle of the bridge’s night illumination. The bridge was fully opened on 18th July, 2010.
Specifications:
The bridge is around 280 metres long. The stainless steel that is part of the helix structure is about 2.3 kilometres in length if stretched end to end. It is elevated almost nine metres above water which can translate to the height of three stories. The high elevation allows boats to pass through Marina Bay and Marina channel. The bridge is fabricated with 650 tonnes of duplex stainless steel and 1000 tonnes of carbon steel, and the total weight of the bridge is 1700 tonnes. The total cost of the bridge exceeded £40 Million Pounds Sterling.
A Unique Architectural Achievement Made Possible By Our Bolts
The visually stunning Helix bridge is a unique feature in Singapore that has been strategically placed around Marina Bay sands, gardens by the bay, the Singapore flyer, and the Bayfront bridge. The bridge provides a beautifully lit walkway by night for visitors to enjoy and the bridge can support
up to 16,000 people at any one time.
