Inconel Alloy 625®: Information, Composition & Properties for Hex Bolts
Inconel Alloy 625® (UNS N06625) is a high-performance nickel-chromium-molybdenum superalloy renowned for its exceptional strength and outstanding resistance to a wide range of corrosive environments. Unlike many other high-temperature alloys, Inconel 625® derives its high strength from the solid-solution strengthening effect of molybdenum and niobium within its nickel-chromium matrix, eliminating the need for precipitation hardening treatments. This unique structural integrity allows Inconel 625® hex bolts to maintain high tensile, creep, and rupture strength from cryogenic temperatures up to 1800°F (982°C), making them an essential component for critical assemblies in aerospace, marine, and chemical processing industries.
Composition:
The chemical composition of Inconel Alloy 625® is meticulously balanced to ensure maximum performance. It consists primarily of nickel (58% minimum) and chromium (20-23%), with significant additions of molybdenum (8-10%) and niobium plus tantalum (3.15-4.15%). The high nickel and chromium content provides excellent resistance to oxidizing chemicals, while the combination of molybdenum and niobium ensures superior mechanical properties and resistance to non-oxidizing acids. Small amounts of iron (5% maximum) and other trace elements like manganese, silicon, and carbon are also present to refine the material’s properties.
Properties:
- Exceptional Corrosion Resistance: The alloy offers outstanding protection against pitting, crevice corrosion, and intergranular attack. It is highly resistant to chloride-ion stress corrosion cracking, making it the premier choice for seawater and offshore applications.
- High Fatigue and Thermal Strength: Inconel 625® exhibits high corrosion-fatigue strength and resists thermal fatigue under cyclic heating and cooling conditions, ensuring the long-term reliability of hex bolts in engine and exhaust environments.
- Versatile Chemical Stability: These hex bolts demonstrate remarkable resistance to a broad spectrum of aggressive media, including sulfuric, hydrochloric, nitric, and phosphoric acids, as well as organic acids and alkalis.
- Excellent Fabricability: Despite its high strength, the material retains good ductility and weldability, allowing for the precision manufacturing of hex bolts to exacting tolerances and bespoke specifications.
Why Inconel Alloy 625® is ideal for Hex Bolts:
The integration of Inconel 625® into hex bolt manufacturing provides a fastening solution that thrives where standard stainless steels fail. The material’s ability to resist oxidation and carburization at elevated temperatures, combined with its immunity to localized attack in stagnant or flowing seawater, makes it indispensable for submerged naval applications, chemical reactors, and high-temperature furnace fixtures. By choosing Inconel Alloy 625® hex bolts, engineers ensure a secure, high-integrity connection that guarantees safety and performance in the world’s most demanding industrial environments.”
At West Special Fasteners, we take pride in every Inconel Alloy 625® hex bolt we produce, no matter the application.
