Winning the King’s Award for Enterprise is one of the biggest achievements in West Special Fasteners history, and it’s something everyone across the business can be proud of.
The award recognises the hard work, dedication and commitment of our team, so we wanted to bring everyone together to celebrate and, most importantly, say thank you.
A Warm Welcome
The evening began with colleagues gathering at SMH Stadium, ready to enjoy a well-earned celebration of everything we have achieved together.
The room looked beautiful. As part of our commitment to making thoughtful choices, we opted against the usual balloons and plastic table confetti that often end up being thrown away after an event. Instead, each table was decorated with orchid centrepieces, adding a touch of sophistication to the evening. The orchids also had a second life beyond the celebration, as colleagues were invited to take them home at the end of the night, ensuring they could continue to be enjoyed after the last dance.
As more people arrived, the room soon filled with conversation and laughter as colleagues caught up with people from across the business. It was a great way to start the evening and enjoy some time together away from the workplace.
A Little Bit of Magic
One of the first talking points of the evening came courtesy of Andy Taylor magician, who made his way around the tables throughout the night.
Andy brought the magic directly to our guests with a series of close-up tricks and illusions that left everyone completely baffled.
Among all the incredible tricks Andy performed, one left me completely baffled. What started as bits of newspaper somehow became a handful of crisp £20 notes right in front of me. Despite having a front-row view, I couldn’t even begin to explain how he did it. The only explanation I’ve managed to come up with is that Andy is genuinely magic.
Wherever he went, the reaction was much the same: looks of disbelief, plenty of laughter and lots of people trying unsuccessfully to work out how the tricks were done.
Stealing the Spotlight
As impressive as the magic was, one of the most memorable moments of the evening came from one of our colleague’s children.
With plenty of confidence and some seriously impressive dance moves, they quickly became the centre of attention and had everyone smiling and cheering them on.
It was great to see colleagues and their families enjoying themselves together, and it added to the relaxed and friendly atmosphere of the evening.
A Fantastic Buffet
Of course, no celebration would be complete without good food.
The team at SMH Stadium provided an excellent buffet with plenty of choice for guests. Special attention had also been given to dietary requirements, ensuring everyone was well catered for.
Adding an extra personal touch to the evening, one of our talented colleagues, Joanne, kindly made a celebration cake for the event. Not only did it look fantastic, it was absolutely delicious!
The food was very well received, with plenty of compliments. It also gave everyone the chance to sit down, catch up and enjoy the evening.
Giving Back Through Our Charity Raffle
Once everyone had enjoyed the buffet, it was time for our charity raffle.
Thanks to the generosity of our colleagues, £340 was raised on the night. West Special Fasteners then matched the amount raised, doubling the total and increasing the support going to three worthy causes.
The funds will be split equally between Ashgate Hospice, Weston Park Cancer Charity and Chesterfield FC Community Trust.
A huge thank you to everyone who donated prizes, bought raffle tickets and supported the raffle. Your generosity will help these organisations continue the important work they do in our communities.
There was a great selection of prizes up for grabs, with plenty of anticipation as the winning numbers were called.
Lucky winners went home with a wide variety of prizes, including a cordless drill, neck massager, wireless speaker, socket set, boxes of chocolates and plenty more besides.
Each winning ticket brought another round of cheers and laughter. And nobody went home empty-handed. Everyone who didn’t win a raffle prize received a WSF travel mug featuring our King’s Award for Enterprise logo. Judging by some of the reactions, the travel mugs may even have been the real star prize of the evening. They certainly made a good keepsake to take home and remember the occasion.
Capturing the Memories
While the evening itself flew by, we’re fortunate to have plenty of photographs to remember it by thanks to Tina Jenner photography. From colleagues catching up and enjoying the atmosphere to Andy Magic Man’s jaw-dropping tricks and some energetic moves on the dance floor, Tina captured the spirit of the celebration perfectly.
The photographs provide a wonderful snapshot of the evening and the pride, laughter, and camaraderie shared by colleagues as we came together to celebrate our King’s Award for Enterprise success. A huge thank you to Tina for helping preserve the memories of such an important occasion for West Special Fasteners.
A Night to Remember
As the evening went on, the celebrations continued and the dance floor soon filled with colleagues ready to make the most of the occasion.
Some headed straight for the dance floor, while others took a little more persuading, but before long there were plenty of people joining in. Seeing colleagues enjoying themselves together was the perfect way to round off the celebrations
The King’s Award for Enterprise is a milestone we’re all immensely proud of, but the celebration was really about the people behind it. Every order fulfilled, every challenge overcome and every contribution made across the business has played a part in getting us here.
It was a brilliant night, and a chance for everyone to come together, celebrate what we’ve achieved and say thank you to the people who helped make it happen
