Precision-Engineered A4-80 Stainless Steel Studbolts

UK Manufacturer – ISO 9001-certified – UK and EU-sourced materials – Full traceability

A4-80 Stainless Steel Studbolts

We are a leading UK manufacturer of A4-80 stainless steel studbolts, precision-engineered at our Sheffield facility to meet the rigorous demands of industrial and marine environments. A4-80 is a high-tensile grade of stainless steel, offering significantly higher strength than standard A4-70, making these studbolts ideal for critical load-bearing applications where both durability and corrosion resistance are paramount.

Sourced from fully traceable UK and EU suppliers, our A4-80 studbolts are manufactured to order to ensure they meet your exact specifications and ISO 9001 quality standards. These fasteners provide exceptional resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride-rich environments, such as offshore platforms and chemical processing plants, ensuring long-term reliability and safety in the most challenging conditions.

Why Choose A4-80 Studbolts?

A4-80 stainless steel studbolts offer a high-tensile, acid-resistant fastening solution with a minimum tensile strength of 800 MPa, providing: – Exceptional resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride-rich and marine environments.

  • Significantly higher mechanical strength than standard A4-70 fasteners for critical load-bearing
  • Excellent toughness and performance across a wide temperature range, including cryogenic conditions
  • Superior durability and fatigue life in demanding industrial and offshore applications

These properties make A4-80 stainless steel studbolts an ideal choice for environments where high strength and long-term corrosion resistance are essential for safety and reliability.

A4-80 Stainless Steel Studbolts Information, Composition & Properties

A4-80 stainless steel is a high-tensile, acid-resistant grade specifically engineered for demanding fastening applications. The designation A4 identifies the material as an austenitic stainless steel, typically based on the 316 or 316L alloy family, while the 80 signifies a minimum tensile strength of 800 MPa. Unlike standard A4-70 fasteners, A4-80 studbolts undergo intensive cold working or strain hardening during manufacture to achieve significantly enhanced mechanical strength and durability. This makes them an ideal choice for critical load-bearing assemblies in industries where both structural integrity and extreme corrosion resistance are non-negotiable.

Chemical Composition:

The exceptional performance of A4-80 studbolts is rooted in its precise chemical composition. It primarily consists of chromium (16-18.5%), nickel (10-15%), and molybdenum (2-3%). The chromium content provides a fundamental layer of protection against oxidation, while the high nickel content ensures a stable austenitic structure and excellent toughness, even at cryogenic temperatures. The addition of molybdenum is crucial for studbolts used in harsh environments, as it provides superior resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in the presence of chlorides, industrial solvents, and marine atmospheres.

Properties:

  • High Tensile Strength: With a minimum tensile strength of 800 MPa and a yield strength of approximately 600 MPa, these studbolts offer mechanical performance comparable to carbon steel fasteners while maintaining the benefits of stainless steel.
  • Superior Corrosion Resistance: The molybdenum-stabilized grade excels in resisting chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking and acidic environments, making it suitable for offshore and chemical processing.
  • Temperature Versatility: A4-80 maintains its mechanical properties across a wide temperature range, offering good oxidation resistance up to 870°C and outstanding toughness in sub-zero conditions.
  • Durability and Reliability: The combination of strain-hardened strength and innate corrosion resistance ensures a long service life for studbolts in safety-critical infrastructure and heavy industrial equipment.

Certified Quality and Traceability

West Special Fasteners operates a fully accredited ISO 9001 quality system with comprehensive documentation and batch traceability. All material certificates and inspection reports are supplied as standard, ensuring complete confidence in the origin and integrity of every component.

A4-80 Stainless Steel Studbolts Manufacturing Capabilities

Our Sheffield-based manufacturing facility specialises in the production of high-integrity A4-80 stainless steel studbolts, utilising both advanced hot forging and precision machining techniques. As one of the few UK manufacturers with dedicated hot press forging capabilities, we ensure the material integrity of every studbolt is preserved for high-stress applications. Our hybrid workshop combines CNC and manual technology, allowing us to produce studbolts in a comprehensive size range from M5 to M52 (metric) and 1/4″” to 2″” (imperial), with lengths up to 500mm to suit bespoke project requirements.

To ensure superior performance in safety-critical environments, we utilise cold-form thread rolling for diameters up to M72, which enhances tensile strength and fatigue resistance. Every production run is supported by rigorous quality assurance, including in-house PMI testing, hardness testing, and API-approved heat treatment processes. From specialised coatings like PTFE and Xylan to full NDT certification and material traceability, our manufacturing capabilities are designed to meet the non-negotiable standards of the subsea, offshore, and chemical processing industries.
