Precision-Engineered A4-80 Stainless Steel Hex Bolts
UK Manufacturer – ISO 9001-certified – UK and EU-sourced materials – Full traceability
A4-80 Stainless Steel Hex Bolts
We are a leading UK manufacturer of A4-80 stainless steel hex bolts, precision-engineered at our Sheffield facility to meet the rigorous demands of industrial and marine environments. A4-80 is a high-tensile grade of acid-resistant stainless steel, offering significantly higher strength than standard A4-70 fasteners while maintaining exceptional resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. Each bolt is manufactured to order from fully traceable materials, ensuring that every component meets ISO 9001 quality standards for safety and performance in critical load-bearing applications.
These fasteners are specifically designed for use in harsh conditions, such as offshore oil and gas, chemical processing, and coastal infrastructure, where both mechanical integrity and longevity are essential. The A4-80 grade provides a minimum tensile strength of 800 MPa, making it the ideal choice for heavy-duty structural assemblies that require the superior protective properties of molybdenum-alloyed steel. By combining in-house machining expertise with high-grade European-sourced materials, we deliver bespoke bolting solutions that provide long-term reliability and peace of mind in the most challenging environments.
Why Choose A4-80 Hex Bolts?
A4-80 stainless steel combines the high-grade corrosion resistance of 316-grade alloys with significantly enhanced mechanical strength through cold working, offering:
- Minimum tensile strength of 800 MPa for high-load industrial applications
- Superior resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride-rich and marine environments
- Excellent durability and toughness across a wide temperature range, including cryogenic settings
- Enhanced acid resistance compared to standard A2 or 304-grade stainless steel fasteners
These properties make A4-80 hex bolts an ideal choice for critical fastening in marine, chemical, and offshore environments where both structural integrity and longevity are essential.

A4-80 Hex Bolts Information, Composition & Properties
A4-80 stainless steel is a high-tensile, acid-resistant austenitic grade specifically engineered for fasteners that require a combination of exceptional mechanical strength and superior corrosion resistance. The designation A4 identifies it as part of the molybdenum-stabilised 316 stainless steel family, while the 80 denotes a minimum tensile strength of 800 MPa, achieved through a precise cold-working process. This makes A4-80 hex bolts significantly stronger than standard A4-70 or A2-70 fasteners, allowing them to support heavier loads in safety-critical industrial and marine applications.
Composition:
The chemical profile of A4-80 is defined by its high chromium (16-18.5%), nickel (10-14%), and molybdenum (2-3%) content. The chromium provides the foundational passivity for corrosion resistance, while the high nickel content ensures structural stability and toughness. The addition of molybdenum is critical, as it provides specific protection against pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride-rich environments. The low carbon content (typically ≤0.08%) helps maintain the integrity of the alloy during manufacturing.
Properties:
- High Mechanical Strength: With a minimum tensile strength of 800 MPa and a yield strength of approximately 600 MPa, these bolts offer performance comparable to grade 8.8 carbon steel but with integrated corrosion protection.
- Superior Corrosion Resistance: The molybdenum-bearing structure provides excellent resistance to marine atmospheres, salts, and various industrial acids, making it ideal for offshore and chemical processing.
- Cryogenic Toughness: As an austenitic alloy, A4-80 retains excellent ductility and impact strength even at extremely low temperatures, unlike many carbon steels that become brittle.
- Non-Magnetic Nature: In its annealed state, the material is non-magnetic, though the cold-working process used to achieve the 800 MPa strength may introduce a slight magnetic permeability.
At West Special Fasteners, we take pride in every A4-80 Hex Bolt we produce, no matter the application.
Certified Quality and Traceability
West Special Fasteners operates a fully accredited ISO 9001 quality system with comprehensive documentation and batch traceability. All material certificates and inspection reports are supplied as standard, ensuring complete confidence in the origin and integrity of every component.

A4-80 Stainless Steel Hex Bolt Manufacturing Capabilities
Our Sheffield-based manufacturing facility specialises in the production of high-integrity A4-80 Stainless Steel hex bolts, utilising a combination of advanced hot forging and precision machining techniques. As one of the few UK manufacturers with dedicated hot press forging capabilities, we focus on preserving material integrity for high-stress applications. Our hybrid workshop integrates CNC and manual technology, allowing us to produce hex bolts in a comprehensive size range from M5 to M52 (metric) and 1/4 inch to 2 inch (imperial), with lengths up to 500mm to suit bespoke project requirements.
To ensure superior performance in safety-critical environments, we utilise cold-form thread rolling for diameters up to M72, which enhances tensile strength and fatigue resistance by displacing material rather than cutting it. Every production run is supported by rigorous quality assurance, including in-house PMI testing, hardness testing, and API-approved heat treatment processes. From specialised coatings like PTFE and Xylan to full NDT certification and material traceability, our manufacturing capabilities are designed to meet the non-negotiable standards of the marine, defence, and chemical processing industries.
