Setting Off with Purpose
This weekend, a few of us from West Special Fasteners took part in the Walk as One for Weston Park, a community event we are proud to sponsor. It turned out to be far more than just a walk. We set off early, not quite sure what the weather was going to do, so we packed our waterproofs just in case. Thankfully, the skies held, and we were treated to a peaceful, reflective walk through some of the most beautiful countryside around.
A Scenic Route with Signs of Autumn
The route followed a quiet brook for much of the way, winding gently through woodlands. The trees were just starting to turn, with hints of amber and rust showing through the green, a soft reminder that autumn was on its way. It gave the whole walk a calm, thoughtful atmosphere, perfect for the kind of day it was.

Steel Heritage Along the Way
One of the most memorable moments was a pit stop at a traditional grinding mill, once used for sharpening blades and cutlery. For those of us in manufacturing, it was a powerful reminder of Sheffield’s industrial roots. At West Special Fasteners, we work with advanced materials and precision engineering, but seeing the old water-powered machinery in action reminded us of where it all began. The contrast between traditional steelwork and modern manufacturing was striking, and it made us proud to be part of a legacy that still shapes our region today.

Stories That Stay With You
The walk was around four miles so not too long, but what made it truly meaningful were the people we met along the way. Everyone had something to share. Some were walking in memory of loved ones, others were walking for themselves, and many just wanted to show support. We heard stories that were heartbreaking, brave, and deeply personal. And every single person we passed had something kind to say, “well done,” “keep going,” “good luck.” It really lifted us.
Volunteers and Community Spirit
The volunteers were fantastic, full of energy, smiles, and encouragement. They made everyone feel welcome and kept the atmosphere upbeat from start to finish. It was clear that this event meant a lot to everyone involved.
Why We Sponsored
For us, this wasn’t just a walk. It was a way to stand with the people in our community and support a cause that means a lot to all of us. Weston Park Cancer Centre has helped so many, and we all know someone who’s been treated there. It’s personal.
That’s why we didn’t just walk, we sponsored the event too. As a local business, we believe it’s important to support the services that support our workforce. These are our colleagues, our families, our friends. When they need care, Weston Park is there, and we want to be there too, in whatever way we can.
It’s Not Too Late to Help
It’s not too late todonate, every single pound helps Weston Park continue the incredible work they do.
