At West Special Fasteners, we believe that businesses have a vital role to play in strengthening the communities they serve. That’s why we were thrilled to sponsor Weston Park’s Walk As One event last year. But the journey doesn’t end there. There’s still so much more to do to ensure that everyone affected by cancer gets the care, support, and hope they deserve.
Weston Park’s Impact on Local Lives
Every year, more than 9,000 people in our region are diagnosed with cancer. Weston Park Cancer Charity ensures that these individuals, and their families, receive not just treatment, but holistic care and support.
Here’s what makes their work so special:
- Outreach Vans: Volunteer-run transport services help patients reach hospital appointments without worrying about parking or costs. This means fewer missed appointments and more chances for life-saving treatment.
- Treatment Centres as Community Hubs: These aren’t just clinical spaces, they’re places where patients connect, share experiences, and cheer each other on through treatment.
- Complementary Therapies: From acupuncture and art therapy to health walks, coffee mornings, and bereavement support, Weston Park offers care that goes beyond medicine.
- Practical Help: Welfare advice, legal guidance, and emotional support ensure patients and families can focus on recovery without added stress.
- Clinical Trials: For over 25 years, Weston Park has provided access to cutting-edge treatments not yet available on the NHS. Their research nurses play a crucial role in raising awareness and identifying eligible patients.
- Grants Programme: Funding projects that enhance treatment and improve quality of life for people affected by cancer in our region.
The Big Purple Bus
Launched in 2023, the Big Purple Bus is a lifeline for people in rural and underserved areas. It brings expert advice, emotional support, and practical resources directly to communities, removing barriers like travel and cost. Inside, patients and families can speak to trained professionals, learn about treatment options, and access vital information in a safe, welcoming space. By taking care to where it’s needed most, Weston Park Cancer Charity ensures no one is left behind because of geography or circumstance.
Special Focus: The See It, Treat It Appeal
One of Weston Park’s most ambitious projects is the See It, Treat It Appeal. The goal? To raise £1.85 million for a breakthrough MRI simulation cancer scanning machine. This technology will allow oncologists to see tumours more accurately and plan targeted treatments faster, with fewer side effects.
Why is this so important?
- 1 in 2 of us will be diagnosed with cancer in our lifetime.
- People in our region are more likely to suffer from cancer and more likely to die from it sooner.
- This machine will benefit 12–18 patients daily, making a tangible difference to survival rates and quality of care.
- Only five cancer centres in the UK currently have this technology. Weston Park aims to treat its first patient using the new scanner in 2026.

Why Local Support Matters
Every pound raised stays in our region, helping local people, our employees, their families, and our neighbours. Supporting Weston Park means investing in tangible, visible results that benefit the whole community.
At West Special Fasteners, we believe businesses should back charities that serve the communities where their teams live and work. Supporting Weston Park delivers practical, visible outcomes close to home: better access to care, stronger support networks, and help when it’s needed most. This is community investment with measurable impact, and we’re privileged to play our part.
Join Us in Making a Difference
None of this would be possible without fundraisers, donors, and businesses stepping up. Events like Walk As One show the power of collective action. Together, we can ensure that no one misses an appointment because they can’t afford transport, and that everyone has access to the best possible care.
At West Special Fasteners, we’re committed to making a real difference for people in our community. Supporting Weston Park Cancer Charity isn’t just about one event, it’s about helping deliver life-saving care and support where it’s really needed. We encourage other businesses to join us, because together we can create lasting impact for local families facing cancer.
