Ensuring full CBAM compliance for our specially made fasteners from the UK to the EU
Our company is fully committed to navigating the evolving CBAM landscape, providing our customers with a trustworthy partner. Actual data collection, clear internal procedures, and close collaboration with all partners, allows seamless shipping of fasteners from the UK to the EU. Today, tomorrow, and beyond.
What Is the EU CBAM?
The EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is a regulatory tool introduced under Regulation (EU) 2023/956 that seeks to level the carbon-cost playing field between domestic EU-produced goods and imports. From October 1, 2023, a transitional reporting phase began, requiring importers to submit quarterly data on the direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions embedded in imported goods.
Starting January 1, 2026, the full CBAM rules apply—importers will be required to purchase CBAM certificates to cover the carbon emissions not already priced at the origin.
Importantly, certain low-volume importers—those importing less than 50 metric tonnes annually—are potentially exempted under a new “de minimis” rule, reducing administrative burdens for small-medium importers.
Are Fasteners Covered by CBAM?
Yes. Fasteners, such as screws, bolts, socket capscrews, nuts and washers made of iron & stainless steels fall within in-scope and must be reported on.
Our Compliance Strategy
Supply Chain Mapping & Data Collection
We maintain a fully traceable, company specific, method of data collection of our own emissions created during manufacture. This, added to data from our suppliers of the staring raw material, allows us to create individual reports for our all orders. Scope 1 (direct emissions) and Scope 2 (indirect emissions, e.g., electricity) are specially calculated, in full compliance with EU regulation.
Quarterly Reporting During Transitional Phase & for Full Compliance from 2026
We have supported all our EU customers during the transitional phase, supplying reports on a quarterly basis, usually within 2 weeks of a quarter ending. This will become quicker in time, as we are continuingly looking at improving our reporting processes.
Monitoring Regulatory Changes
Working with our specially selected consultants, we’re tracking regulatory developments, including the EU’s simplification efforts (like streamlined registration and broader de-minimis exemptions). CBAM will continue to evolve, and we are flexible to meet amended or new regulations.
Strategic Benefits
No Risk of Trade Disruption or Penalties for Incorrect Data
By proactively providing compliant emissions data, we empower our customers to fully meet their CBAM reporting obligations
A Trusted Partner for our EU Customers
Transparent compliance strengthens our credibility and positions us shows our respect for new regulations.
Operational Resilience & Futureproofing
Building in-house capacity for emissions accounting keeps us agile, as CBAM evolves and positions us well for anticipated UK CBAM requirements and any other CBAM style regulation worldwide.

Shipping & currency
Customers can order on various Incoterms® 2020 to suit their requirements; Ex-Works, DAP, DDP, DIP, DPU, FCA, FAS, FOB, CFR, CIF.
West Special Fasteners have exported fasteners for 20 years and have a wealth of experience when meeting customers shipping requirements. In fact, we were that well prepared for Brexit, that not one of our shipments was delayed whilst EU & UK customs got to grip with new procedures in early 2021. Something we are very proud of to this day.
An order cannot be completed until the customer receives and is happy with the finished product. Robust packing procedures, with flexible solutions to suit varying sizes of product, ensure products are delivered as intended. Working with local suppliers, using re-usable packaging where possible, also helps meets goals set in our environmental policy.
Our main currencies are Pound Sterling (GBP), Euro and US Dollars. To allow ease of trade, we look to establish credit terms with all customers, from the very first order (subject to successful acceptance of credit application). Other payment terms are available, and we pride ourselves on flexibility and understanding when building initial & long term relations with new clients.
